Simple Steps to Keep Your Facebook and Meta Assets Secure

In today’s age, it’s always alarming to think about getting hacked. Whether it’s your email or your Facebook account, the threat of digital hackers is ever-present. Your Facebook account security is especially important if you are running Meta ads. Luckily there are some easy methods to maintain your Meta ads security. Some common ways to protect your Facebook account from hackers are by setting up two-factor authentication, making sure you are using strong unique passwords, monitoring your login locations, and you can limit the potential for hackers by managing what apps and websites have access to your account.

Why You Shouldn’t Use Facebook as a Login Method for Third-Party Apps

Remember that new workout app you downloaded for your gym sessions? And when it asks how you’d like to login, just like any of us would, you selected Facebook to help streamline the process and get to your reps. We all do it! But here is why you might want to rethink.

Let’s say this great new workout app gets hacked, and now it’s linked to your Facebook account–that means that your information on Facebook is now in the hands of hackers. Yikes! While for some who are just using Facebook for a passive pass time, this might be a frustrating inconvenience, if you’re running ads for your small business or managing an ad agency, this can result in financial loss, damage to your reputation, and operation disruptions.

How You Can Protect Your Facebook Account and Meta Ad Accounts from Being Hacked

Now that you’re good and scared thinking about the idea of your account falling into the wrong hands, let’s go over an easy way you can protect your account:

Don’t Use Facebook As a Login Method

From now on, any time an app or website offers you to create an account with Facebook, always opt to create a custom log in with a custom password. Yet it takes a little longer, but it can save you and your business in the long run.

Remove Apps & Website Using Your Facebook

Here’s how you can revoke access to your account from third-party apps:

  1. Log into Facebook.

  2. In the top right corner click on your profile picture and select Settings & privacy then select Settings.

  3. On the left menu you can scroll down to Your Activity and select Apps and Websites.

  4. Here you will see a list of all the third-party apps that have access to your Facebook.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to update the login method before you remove any apps you are actively using.

  5. Once you have updated the login method of your frequently used apps you can start selecting remove next to the apps listed on this page.
